Santos,Esmael Lopes dos; Debiasi,Henrique; Franchini,Julio Cezar; Vieira,Marcos José; Balbinot Junior,Alvadi Antonio.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effect of chiseling and gypsum application on soil physical properties, soybean root growth and grain yield. An experiment was carried out in Londrina, Paraná state, Brazil, under a randomized complete block design, with six replications. The soil in the experimental area is classified as a dystroferric Red Latosol (Oxisol), containing 720 g kg-1 of clay. The experiment comprised four treatments: (1) continuous no-tillage (CNT) system without gypsum application, (2) CNT with gypsum application at 3.5 Mg ha-1, (3) chiseled soil without gypsum, and (4) chiseled soil with gypsum application. Regardless of gypsum application, chiseling increased water infiltration rate in soil and reduced penetration resistance. Gypsum...

Effect of two-axle and three-axle sugarbeet tanker harvester on selected soil-physical properties in dry and wet soil conditions CIGR Journal
Moitzi, Gerhard; Amon, Stefan; Klik, Andreas; Schwen, Andreas.
The effects of two-axle and three-axle sugarbeet harvester under dry (gravimetric soil water content 20%) and wet (gravimentric soil water content 30%) soil conditions on bulk density, soil penetration resistance and saturated hydraulic conductivity were determined in a long-term non-ploughed field with a silty loam soil in the Pannonian region of Austria. The tyre-inflation pressure of the sugarbeet harvester was set to 140 kPa in the front axle and 190 kPa in the middle and rear axles. The total weight of the three-axle harvester was distributed equally with about 20 Mg each axle. Two-axle harvester distributed the total weight of 49.1 Mg to the rear axle with 27.3 Mg and to the front axle with 21.8 Mg.The differences of bulk density (10-15 cm, 25-30 cm,...

Nogueira,Deise C. S.; Fernandes,Carolina; Souza,Luma C. de; Camargo,Lívia A.; Ferraudo,Antonio S..
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of minerals in the clay fraction on physical attributes of Yellow Ultisol cultivated with sugarcane and prepared with two different treatments: chiseling across the entire area and chiseling only in planting rows. The samples were collected from four layers of soil at eight months after planting. We assessed the texture of the soil, levels of iron extracted by dithionite-citrate-bicarbonate (DCB) and ammonium acid oxalate (AAO), ratio of kaolinite/(kaolinite + gibbsite), soil bulk density, and soil penetration resistance. The first area showed a higher ratio of kaolinite/(kaolinite + gibbsite) and the second area had greater levels of iron extracted by DCB. Levels of iron extracted by DCB...

Improvement of a testing apparatus for dynamometry: procedures for penetrometry and influence of strain rate to quantify the tensile strength of soil aggregates Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Figueiredo,Getulio Coutinho; Silva,Alvaro Pires da; Tormena,Cássio Antonio; Giarola,Neyde Fabíola Balarezo; Moraes,Sergio Oliveira; Almeida,Brivaldo Gomes de.
Soil penetration resistance (PR) and the tensile strength of aggregates (TS) are commonly used to characterize the physical and structural conditions of agricultural soils. This study aimed to assess the functionality of a dynamometry apparatus by linear speed and position control automation of its mobile base to measure PR and TS. The proposed equipment was used for PR measurement in undisturbed samples of a clayey "Nitossolo Vermelho eutroférrico" (Kandiudalfic Eutrudox) under rubber trees sampled in two positions (within and between rows). These samples were also used to measure the volumetric soil water content and bulk density, and determine the soil resistance to penetration curve (SRPC). The TS was measured in a sandy loam "Latossolo Vermelho...

Physical properties of a rhodic haplustox under two sugarcane harvesting systems Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Machado,Walquíria; Telles,Tiago Santos; Tavares Filho,João; Guimarães,Maria de Fátima; Alves,Grace Bungenstab; Borges,José Luiz Bernardo.
This study had the purpose of evaluating the effects of two management types of sugarcane: harvesting of burnt cane (BCH) and mechanized harvesting of unburnt green cane (MCH), on some soil physical properties of a dystrophic Rhodic Haplustox. The data were then compared with results for the same soil type under native forest. A completely randomized design was used, with three treatments and 20 replications. The following characteristics were determined: organic matter, aggregate stability, soil bulk density, and porosity at depths of 0-0.20 m and soil penetration resistance. After 15 years of cultivation, there were some alterations in the soil under cane burnt before harvesting, evidenced by a drop in the weighted average diameter of stable aggregates...

Soil compaction and eucalyptus growth in response to forwarder traffic intensity and load Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Silva,Sérgio Ricardo da; Barros,Nairam Félix de; Costa,Liovando Marciano da; Leite,Fernando Palha.
During timber exploitation in forest stands harvesting machines pass repeatedly along the same track and can cause soil compaction, which leads to soil erosion and restricted tree root growth. The level of soil compaction depends on the number of passes and weight of the wood load. This paper aimed to evaluate soil compaction and eucalyptus growth as affected by the number of passes and wood load of a forwarder. The study was carried out in Santa Maria de Itabira county, Minas Gerais State - Brazil, on a seven-year-old eucalyptus stand planted on an Oxisol. The trees were felled by chainsaw and manually removed. Plots of 144 m² (four rows 12 m long in a 3 x 2 m spacing) were then marked off for the conduction of two trials. The first tested the traffic...

Structural changes in latosols of the cerrado region: I - relationships between soil physical properties and least limiting water range Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Severiano,Eduardo da Costa; Oliveira,Geraldo César de; Dias Júnior,Moacir de Souza; Costa,Katia Aparecida de Pinho; Silva,Fabiano Guimarães; Ferreira Filho,Silvio Marcos.
The agricultural potential of Latosols of the Brazilian Cerrado region is high, but when intensively cultivated under inappropriate management systems, the porosity can be seriously reduced, leading to rapid soil degradation. Consequently, accelerated erosion and sedimentation of springs and creeks have been observed. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate structural changes of Latosols in Rio Verde, Goiás, based on the Least Limiting Water Range (LLWR), and relationships between LLWR and other physical properties. Soil samples were collected from the B horizons of five oxidic Latosols representing the textural variability of the Latosols of the Cerrado biome. LLWR and other soil physical properties were determined at various soil...
